WE ARE PARENTS AND SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGISTS - EMAIL US

Kathy Hosty, M.A., CCC-SLP and Michelle Gips, M.A., CCC-SLP, speech-language pathologists, have finally published the card games they have been using with their clients, families, and friends in over 50 years of clinical practice. There are 10 decks inthe set of card games that promote skilled reading practice. Competitive, tried-and-true card routines (think crazy eights, Uno, set, go fish) progress from basic syllables to the Latin and Greek layers of English.

POWERFUL
The content of the decks is designed for productive reading practice, targeting the critical elements of sound reading instruction as outlined by the Report of The National Reading Panel: phonemic awareness, alphabetics, fluency, morphology and vocabulary.

PORTABLE
A deck fits into a pocket or a purse for use in planes, trains, and automobiles as well as at restaurants, the doctors’ offices, waiting rooms, and parks.

PLAY
Play is the best teacher. Engaging card routines have kids “begging” to play.
Competition and laughter are part of every round. The multi-sensory reading practice is fun and reinforces reading instruction in lively rounds of card play. You will be amazed at the serious amount of “smart” play in our card games.

GAMES WILL APPEAL TO garden variety readers, struggling readers of all ages, English as a second language learners, adult literacy students, and basically anyone who wants to have some fun. All can enjoy and benefit from the games. Teachers and tutors can use in the classroom as well as tutoring sessions.

THE FREE EXTENSIONS ARE A GOLDMINE!
A myriad of extensions for variations of play are available on the website “FREE GAME EXTENSIONS.” Here you will find “easier” as well as ”more challenging” play routines geared for all ages and abilities. Thanks to the speech and language background of the authors, you will also find a wealth of alternative games that directly address phonology, morphology, vocabulary, syntax, and pragmatics. They cover both receptive and expressive language and all modalities: listening, talking, reading and writing.

POWERFUL PORTABLE PLAY IN EVERY DECK
